New The Sims 3 Game Update Adds Social Features

If the poll results at the bottom of this News Email are anything to go by, you're more annoyed than excited about The Sims 3′s new social features, but regardless, they're here. The latest update has been released, and here’s what it does:

This game update includes the following changes: Exciting new connected features which allow you to:

  • Post and view messages from your friends while playing, without having to leave or even pause the game.
  • Find new friends and add them to your friends list.
  • Access your Player Profile and Wall from the Options Menu
    • Receive status updates from your friends about their game, and comment!
    • Achievements—view the badges you’ve earned for those you’ve completed, sort and view those you have yet to complete, and find new achievements, which will be introduced to your game regularly!
    • Edit and view your Player Profile, including your avatar, My Story, and wall posts all about you!
    • Get all of the latest and exciting news from The Sims 3!
  • You can now specify what outfit your Sim will wear to work by using a dresser.
  • When a Service NPC joins the family, their special service outfit is added to the wardrobe.

That’s it, so if you were hoping a bug would be fixed, it looks like you’re out of luck. You can get the update through the game launcher, but don’t forget to follow that all-important checklist first — find it at the bottom of the page linked below (if the link doesn’t work, you’ll need to change to English > United States using the Select Language link at the bottom):

New Blog Post Explains Genies In Showtime

A new blog entry explaining the genies in The Sims 3 Showtime has been posted on TheSims3.com:

Genies are mystical beings, and not the easiest to discover. Late night trips into the catacombs, journeys through the dimensional gate on the Plasma Punch Gyroscopic Conductor, and even a legendary stage performance are all ways you could find a dusty old lamp. Of course, if you want to go the tried and true route, saving up lifetime happiness points to buy a lamp is always a good way to go. And, once you find one of these mysterious dusty old lamps, what else would you do but clean it!

Showtime’s SimPort Feature Explained In New Video, Blog Entry

EA has released a new video in which associate producer Sarah Emily Nelson explains and demonstrates (with assistant product manager King Choi) the SimPort feature in The Sims 3 Showtime. If you want to know more about SimPort but don’t have time to watch the Live Chat (see further down) which also demonstrated it, or you want it explained again in a more concise fashion, this is for you:

A video explanation not enough for you? Want it explained in the form of text and screenshots? EA has you covered too then:

To host or send a Sim on tour, access your SimPort book in the start-up menu, on your Sim’s computer or through your Sim’s cell phone. Tour requests will appear from your friends on the right hand side of the book. If your Sim qualifies for the request, you may accept it and send your Sim on tour to that friend’s game. In addition, tour requests may come through on your player wall and through in-game notifications. You may also create and send out tour requests to your friends.
