“Even Bigger News” To Be Announced Next Tuesday

Monday 28th March 2011 | 9:34 pm UK time | Categories

EA has edited the previously reported on Facebook event, changing the date from 31st March (Thursday) to 5th April (next Tuesday). The “more info” reads:

The date has been changed! We have upgraded this Super Secret Surprise event to “Super Secret Surprise! x2” because we have even bigger news to announce! We will still share something on March 31st, but look forward to the new date.

So what will the announcements be? The previously leaked “Generations” expansion on Thursday followed by the also-previously-leaked “Unleashed” expansion (and console game) next Tuesday? I suppose we’ll find out then.

Next Expansion Pack To Be Announced Next Thursday?

Wednesday 23rd March 2011 | 2:26 pm UK time | Categories

EA may finally announce the next expansion pack in just over a week, if an event on Facebook is anything to go by. The Sims 3 on Facebook has created an event called “Super Secret Surprise!”, set to take place on 31st March between 11 am and 11:30 pm (their office time, presumably). The “more info” doesn’t give much away:

Come to the official The Sims 3 Facebook’s fan page to hear about our big surprise! Trust us, it’s something BIG and you’ll definitely want to be here to be one of the first to hear the news. Any ideas what it might be?

I suppose we’ll find out then, won’t we?

“The Sims 3 Unleashed” Trailer Leaked

Saturday 19th March 2011 | 6:57 pm UK time | Categories

The first expansion pack of this year hasn’t been announced yet (though its name has been spotted), but already About.com has found what appears to be the trailer for the second – “The Sims 3 Unleashed”. It looks to be the long-awaited-by-some pets expansion, but adds more than just dogs and cats. There’s also fish, deer, skunks, and ridable horses, with all but the deer and skunks shown to have traits (presumably the deer and skunks are wild). The trailer doesn’t confirm for sure that it is an expansion pack, only specifying that it will be released on Xbox 360, PS3, Nintendo 3DS and PC/Mac. It does specify that it will be available in October 2011. Unless it’s already been removed, you can watch the trailer here:

If the video’s been removed, you might want to read About.com’s write up of it:
> “The Sims 3 Unleashed Expansion Details” at About.com

If EA are already preparing to announce this, it must be because it’s coming to the other platforms as well, because I don’t remember them ever announcing an expansion pack this early before – unless they’re just fed up of people asking when there’s going to be a pets expansion. They could have even leaked the trailer on purpose…

About.com Rates Outdoor Living Stuff Two And A Half Stars

Saturday 12th March 2011 | 9:13 pm UK time | Categories

About.com has posted their review of The Sims 3 Outdoor Living Stuff, rating it two and a half stars out of five:

If you are intrigued by the idea of moving a kitchen onto a patio, or if you believe that you can never have too many hot tubs, then this pack will be worth its asking price. Most will find there’s more fluff here than “stuff.”

Barnacle Bay, a purchasable town for The Sims 3, has been confirmed as now being available at retail, but not on a disk – all you get is a code to allow you to download it from The Sims 3 Store. EA has replaced the original offering of Barnacle Bay on the Store with a new bundle which additionally includes the “Buccaneer’s Bounty Set” and “Two All-New Exclusive Staircases!” – it’s this bundle you’ll get using the code. The new bundle costs 2,000 SimPoints, up from the 1,650 SimPoints the town was previously available for on its own.
