Another The Sims 3 game update has been released, to coincide with the launch of Fast Lane Stuff. It adds a couple of new features that relate to that pack, in fact:

New The Sims 3 Game Update Stops Sims Walking On Water

Thursday 8th July 2010 | 11:00 pm UK time | Categories

EA has released a new The Sims 3 game update, fixing a lot of issues, including these:

  • Dead relatives will no longer appear alive in your Sims’ family trees while traveling to Egypt, China, or France
  • Sketches your Sims create using the Drafting Table are now valued properly based on your Sim’s Painting Skill Level and related Profession Level
  • Sims will no longer walk on water to view paintings placed on swimming pool walls
  • Fixed an “Error 13” issue caused by saving the game immediately before having your Sim give another Sim a makeover
  • Ghost Hunter Sims can no longer “Show Off Banshee Banisher” to child Sims
  • Fixed issue that prevented players from Changing Active Household while in Edit Town mode

Before you rush off to install it though, there’s some extra steps that may need to be taken, on top of the usual ones. As usual EA have forgotten about Windows Vista and Windows 7 and provided file paths that only apply to Windows XP – the path to the The Sims 3 folder in Windows Vista and Windows 7 is C:\Users\[User name]\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 (the Documents folder appears as My Documents in Windows 7, but this path is still correct). For the extra special steps, the full list of changes, and the usual steps (in that order), click below then find the post titled “Game Update for: 1.14/2.9/3.5/4.2”:

The Sims 3 Game Update Enables Capability For Dynamic Advertising, More (Updated)

Wednesday 2nd June 2010 | 2:59 pm UK time | Categories

To coincide with the launch of The Sims 3 Ambitions this week, EA has released the latest The Sims 3 game update, and there’s a lot of major changes. One of those changes is somewhat dubious, however:

This game update enables dynamic ad serving capabilities in The Sims 3. However, there are no immediate plans to activate any content of this kind. The Sims 3 EULA has further details. See http://www.ea.com/1/product-eulas.

There’s too many other changes to list here, so go to TheSims3.com to read more. You’ll also find those steps that should be taken before installing (and during the installation of) patches there – though, again, Windows Vista and Windows 7 users should note that the location of your game user files will be C:\Users\USER\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3, where USER is your user name, not the Windows File Directory given there, which only applies to Windows XP.

Update (3rd June 7:29 pm BST): EA has posted on their The Sims 3 Facebook group about a problem you may find after installing the update, and a way to fix it:

Launcher Reading Version 0.0.0.0 and Base Game Incompatibility

It has come to our attention that some of our fellow Simmers are encountering issues after the latest update. First off we want to apologize in advance for the inconvenience and want to do everything possible to get you back in the game!

Click below for the instructions, which involve reinstalling the EA Download Manager.

New The Sims 3 Game Update Prevents Sims Getting Stuck In “Grab a Slice” Interaction On Pizza, More

Wednesday 24th March 2010 | 11:25 pm UK time | Categories

A new game update has been released for The Sims 3, which includes the following fix:

  • Base Game: Fixes an issue that causes Sims to get stuck in the “Grab a Slice” interaction on pizza.

(You can see the rest at the bottom of the full news page – click “Read more” if you’re not already there)

As usual, they recommend you follow their “check-list” before updating, which you can find by clicking below and finding the post called “Game Update for: 1.11/2.6/3.2” – remember that the file directory in Windows Vista and Windows 7 is, by default, C:\Users\USER\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3 (the directory they specify only applies to Windows XP):
> News at TheSims3.com (UK)

You can get the update by going to the Game Updates tab in your game launcher, if you’re not prompted to update automatically.

If after updating you get some sort of “code version is incompatible” error, SimGuruHydra has got you covered – scroll to the bottom of the full news page for the details.

There’s also a small update for the Create a World Tool, bringing it to version 1.6 (still beta):

Create a World – Updating compatibility version of Create a World Tool – Beta to be compatible with The Sims 3 to ensure it continues to function with in-game features and the Exchange.

You can apparently get that through the game launcher too.

EL33TONLINE Rates Design & High-Tech Stuff Two Stars

Friday 26th February 2010 | 5:30 pm UK time | Categories

EL33TONLINE has posted a review of The Sims 3 Design & High-Tech Stuff (known as High-End Loft Stuff in Australia, New Zealand and the US), rating it two stars out of five:

It contains hardly any items worthy of a detailed description, the only light being that of the aquarium. With the Sims Shop there is no need for this expansion. Save your money and wait for an aquarium to appear in the Sims shop, which it ultimately will.

IGN Reviews Design & High-Tech Stuff

Saturday 13th February 2010 | 11:50 pm UK time | Categories

A Sim and a mummie in bedIGN has posted a review for The Sims 3 Design & High-Tech Stuff (known as High-End Loft Stuff in the US, New Zealand and Australia):

All in all, having new objects is never a bad thing. The artwork of the objects is almost universally better than anything you can get from the online Sims 3 store, and you’ll pay much less for the Stuff Pack than the total cost of purchasing the same number of new objects from the online store. However, considering the leanness of the Stuff Pack (one new object per category, no new wallpaper or flooring), it’s not like the Stuff Pack will allow you to overhaul your neighborhoods.

Apple Features Design & High-Tech Stuff

Friday 12th February 2010 | 12:57 pm UK time | Categories

Following on from their features on The Sims 3 and World Adventures, Apple has now posted one for The Sims 3 Design & High-Tech Stuff (known as High-End Loft Stuff in the US, Australia and New Zealand):

What do you get the Sim who has everything? Mom has achieved her lifetime wish of professional sports superstar. Dad worked his way up from Latrine Cleaner to Top Gun in the military. The kids are doing well in school, and the neighbors are friendly. In fact, most people in Sunset Valley like your Sim family.
