Seasons Reviews Wrap-Up

Tuesday 15th January 2013 | 6:49 pm UK time | Categories

I think it’s about time I wrapped up my The Sims 3 Seasons reviews coverage. As usual I’ll compare the Metascore from Metacritic and Ranking from GameRankings to with those attained by previous expansion packs.

The Metascore stands at 74, “Mixed or average reviews”. This is the same ‘score as was attained by Supernatural, Late Night and Ambitions, and is higher than those attained by Showtime (67) and Generations (70). It is however lower than those attained by Pets (79) and World Adventures (81). 74 is the same Metascore that The Sims 2 expansion packs Bon Voyage and FreeTime attained, but is lower than that attained by all the others. The full list of sources with Metascores specified for each can be found at the bottom of the post — click Read more if you can’t see them.

The Ranking at GameRankings stands at 76.25%, which is higher than those attained by Showtime (73.12%), Generations (73.93%) and Ambitions (75.93%), but lower than those attained by all the others. Out of The Sims 2 expansion packs, only Nightlife (76.07%), Bon Voyage (73.44%) and FreeTime (76.20%) got lower Rankings, though some of those that are higher are only just so — Seasons is only about half a percent higher, Pets even less of a difference. Again, the full list of sources can found at the bottom of the post.

So this concludes my The Sims 3 Seasons reviews coverage — I will no longer post news about any reviews I find (bar possibly ones from particularly major sites such as GameSpot). I will however still add them to the Reviews tab on the game page and mention that change on the Updates page.

Latest Seasons Reviews: Destructoid

Wednesday 9th January 2013 | 4:56 pm UK time | Categories

The Sims 3 University Life may have been announced, but The Sims 3 Seasons reviews are still coming out. Today’s review comes from Destructoid, who rated it a “Mediocre” 5.0 out of 10:

If you find yourself playing The Sims 3 a lot anyway,  then Seasons will add something to the experience. If  you are waiting for a new expansion to make you get back  into playing The Sims 3, however, skip Seasons and wait  for the next one.

> The Sims 3 Seasons review at Destructoid

Thanks mostly to that poor score, the Metascore at Metacritic has fallen four points to 74, “Mixed or average reviews”, based on 11 reviews, while the Ranking at GameRankings has also gone down nearly four per cent to 76.25% based on eight reviews.

Latest Seasons Reviews: GamingExcellence, Worthplaying

Thursday 3rd January 2013 | 1:36 pm UK time | Categories

Two new The Sims 3 Seasons reviews today, starting with GamingExcellence, who rated it a “Decent” 6.5 out of 10:

An okay expansion with a major flaw becomes a massively  flawed expansion.  I really wanted to love this one  and I started to, as soon as I saw all the detail and  effects that were put into it. I was incredibly  impressed by the Aliens as soon as I was able to get my  grubby mitts on one and I wasn’t too badly put off by  the lack of activities.  But when I realized that  my beloved Gardening was going to be so heavily  impacted, I was completely turned off.

The other one is from Worthplaying, who rated it 8.7 out of 10:

All in all, I found Sims 3: Seasons to be an enjoyable  addition to the franchise, though it’s not as exciting  as some of its predecessors. The changing of the seasons  has the gradualness, unpredictability and subtlety of  real life and makes your sims’ world that much closer to  reality.

> “PC Review – ‘The Sims 3: Seasons'” at Worthplaying

The Metascore at Metacritic has gone up a point to 78 (“Generally favorable reviews”) based on nine reviews, while the Ranking at GameRankings has gone up to the nice round figure of 80.00%, based on seven reviews.

Latest Seasons Reviews: Gaming Blend

Tuesday 25th December 2012 | 4:51 pm UK time | Categories

Gaming Blend brings us the latest The Sims 3 Seasons review, rating it four stars out of five:

Like I said, it’s not a game-changer in that it doesn’t  add a substantial amount of additional game-play beyond  visiting the festival. But it’s one of the most fun and  picturesque expansion packs to join the collection for  The Sims 3, which makes it a nice refresher to a game  that’s been around for more than three years.

The Metascore at Metacritic remains at 77 (“Generally favorable reviews”) based on eight reviews, and the Ranking at GameRankings remains at 78.83% based on six reviews.

Latest Seasons Reviews: Gaming Nexus

Friday 21st December 2012 | 1:40 pm UK time | Categories

The latest The Sims 3 Seasons review comes from Gaming Nexus, who rated it an “Excellent” nine out of 10:

The Sims 3 Seasons is an impressive expansion pack that  provides a variety of both gameplay improvements and new  content. Each of the four seasons and various weather  types result in a more dynamic and engaging gameplay  experience that’s perfect for both Sims enthusiasts and  newcomers to the series.

The Metascore at Metacritic has gone up a couple of points to 77, “Generally favorable reviews”, based on eight reviews, while the Ranking at GameRankings has gone up just over two percent to 78.83% based on six reviews.

Latest Seasons Reviews: IGN

Tuesday 18th December 2012 | 1:44 pm UK time | Categories

The latest The Sims 3 Seasons review comes from IGN, who rated it a “Good” 7.5 out of 10:

Unlike most expansion packs for the Sims franchise, The  Sims 3 Seasons isn’t one that requires you to already be  a fan to understand and appreciate its changes to the  game. It’s a solid gateway expansion that builds on the  rules without overwhelming you, but still adds enough  variety that you’ll never want to play without it.

The Metascore at Metacritic remains at 75 (“Generally favorable reviews”) based on seven reviews. There are now enough reviews on GameRankings to report their Ranking, which stands at 76.60% based on five reviews.

Today’s The Sims 3 Seasons review comes from NZGamer.com, who rated it a “Good” 7.7 out of 10:

Even if you’ve played it to death already, the simple  application of weather and seasonal content guarantees  plenty more mileage from the original game. A good  stocking filler for the fans.

Latest Seasons Reviews: Game Chronicles HD, Girl Gamers UK

Thursday 29th November 2012 | 2:26 pm UK time | Categories

Two more The Sims 3 Seasons reviews for you today — first is Game Chronicles HD who rated it four out of five:

Still, this add-on undoubtedly infuses a three-year-old  game with new life, and it’s, by far, the strongest of  the eight. At a suggested retail price of $39.99, The  Sims 3 Seasons is one of the pricier expansion packs,  but it’s hard to imagine a Sims 3 fan missing out on  this one, even with its foibles.

> “The Sims 3 Seasons Limited Edition Review – PC” at Game Chronicles HD

Second and last is Girl Gamers UK who rated it 8.5 out of 10:

While the vast majority of the gameplay remains the  same, the fact that Sims are affected by different  environmental factors adds a new dynamic to the game,  and the new festivals bring activities that change with  the seasons. The Sims 3 Seasons is a ‘must buy’  expansion for the evergrowing series and will change the  life of your Sim.

Latest Seasons Reviews: Game Revolution

Wednesday 28th November 2012 | 2:04 pm UK time | Categories

The latest The Sims 3 Seasons review comes from Game Revolution, who rated it 3.5 out of five:

In short, this expansion falls slightly short of how  interesting and deeply embedded the Supernatural expansion was. That said, Seasons supplies a depth to what can feel like an  endless sunny crawl of hours and minutes in The  Sims 3. For that, the change of pace is well  worth the price of admission.
