Ambitions: GamerZines Interviews Grant Rodiek

Thought now The Sims 3 Ambitions has been released we’d seen the last interview with producer Grant Rodiek? Well you thought wrong because GamerZines has recently released one in two parts:

GamerZines: What will make Sims fans want to pony up the dough for this expansion?

Grant Rodiek: Ambitions is all about new careers and now it’s all about making choices and watching your Sims all day long. For example with the firefighter, you go to the station, you build up your equipment and then the fire comes. There’re big fires and small fires where you’re having to break down doors and try to figure out who to save first in tough situations.

As well as Ambitions, they discuss DRM in the first part, and The Sims 3 Store, The Sims 3 on consoles and sports in The Sims universe in the second part.

Game Blend Gives Its First Impressions Of Ambitions

A Sim fishing in the marshland area of Twinbrook, the town included with AmbitionsGame Blend has posted the first two parts in their series of first impressions articles of The Sims 3 Ambitions:

In addition to some fun new objects, including lighting fixtures, decorative items and other furniture, Ambitions also has a fireman’s pole, which works great for lofts. Just remember to put a staircase in as Sims can slide down the pole but there’s no way to scoot back up it!

The article contains lots of screenshots, some of which I’ve added to the Screenshots tab (Sunday 6th June update).

Ambitions: Digital Spy Interviews Grant Rodiek

Digital Spy has posted an interview with (who else?) associate producer Grant Rodiek about The Sims 3 Ambitions:

Can you tell us about the new careers available in Ambitions?
“We have a wide variety of careers – we have firefighter, ghost hunter, architectural designer, stylist, doctor – which is something we modified from the base game, so there’s the traditional one and now a hybrid, allowing you to do stuff around the world – and private investigator.”

Face Of Starman, Andrew Stone Immortalised As Sim

Andrew Stone, the face of Starman and a star of UK TV series Pineapple Dance Studios has been immortalised as a Sim which EA will make available on The Sims 3 Exchange:

Seen as the embodiment of ambition and determination, the creators of The Sims have decided to catapult Andrew to global stardom ahead of the release of The Sims 3 Ambitions on June 4th 2010. The Sims is the world’s biggest PC franchise and has sold over 125 million games since its launch in 2000. For ambitious Andrew this marks another milestone on his meteoric rise to success and will open him up to a fan base of millions across the world.

You can see him meet his Sim in this video:

He will record his song “I don’t Wanna Dance” in Simlish as well.

First Ambitions Reviews: Game Informer, guardian.co.uk, IGN

The first The Sims 3 Ambitions reviews are in, so it’s time to start my reviews coverage. The first set of reviews give scores ranging from fairly average to good.

Teletext GameCentral rated it six out of 10:

The new professions are a fun idea but there aren't enough of them to justify the high asking price.

 > The Sims 3 Ambitions review at Teletext GameCentral

Game Informer rated it 7.75 out of 10:

Are a handful of new toys and a few jobs you’ll get tired of really worth $40? I’m not sure there is enough content here to appease all but the most diehard Sims fans. After what I thought was a pretty good add-on in World Adventures, this second Sims 3 expansion just feels uninspired and lacking.

 > The Sims 3 Ambitions review at Game Informer

guardian.co.uk gave it three stars out of five:

Although Sims 3 never managed the global domination of its predecessors, there’s still no other game quite like it and this expansion adds just enough to the original formula to make it well worth a look.

 > The Sims 3 Ambitions review at guardian.co.uk

And IGN rated it an “Impressive” 8.0 out of 10:

When so many Sims expansions have seemed relatively inconsequential, Ambitions stands out for how substantially it alters a key component of the game. The new profession system will doubtless keep Sims 3 fans busy for many more hours, and the other additions included will also give players plenty of new stories to tell for Sims both new and old.

The Metascore from Metacritic currently stands at 75, based on six reviews, and described as “Generally favorable reviews”, while The Ranking from GameRankings is currently 78.75%, based on just two reviews.

The Sims 3 Game Update Enables Capability For Dynamic Advertising, More

To coincide with the launch of The Sims 3 Ambitions, EA has released the latest The Sims 3 game update, and there’s a lot of major changes. One of those changes is somewhat dubious, however:

This game update enables dynamic ad serving capabilities in The Sims 3. However, there are no immediate plans to activate any content of this kind. The Sims 3 EULA has further details. See http://www.ea.com/1/product-eulas.

There’s too many other changes to list here, so go to TheSims3.com to read more. You’ll also find those steps that should be taken before installing (and during the installation of) patches there – though, again, Windows Vista and Windows 7 users should note that the location of your game user files will be C:\Users\USER\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3, where USER is your user name, not the Windows File Directory given there, which only applies to Windows XP.

EA has posted on their The Sims 3 Facebook group about a problem you may find after installing the update, and a way to fix it:

Launcher Reading Version 0.0.0.0 and Base Game Incompatibility

It has come to our attention that some of our fellow Simmers are encountering issues after the latest update. First off we want to apologize in advance for the inconvenience and want to do everything possible to get you back in the game!

TheSims3.com Details Inventor, Ghost Hunter Professions

Ghost HuntingA new article has been added to TheSims3.com detailing the “wackier side of [The Sims 3] Ambitions” – the inventor and ghost hunter professions:

The driller is even more exciting! It’s a bigger must for Sims not afraid to dig deep and get dirty amidst the planetary core. Sims can use it to uncover vast resources in the depths of the planet or as a way to create fast-travel networks around the neighborhood.

Current Poll Extended To 12th June

The current poll, asking whether you have bought or are planning to get The Sims 3 Design & High-Tech Stuff / High-End Loft Stuff, has had to be extended yet again due to an unsatisfactory number of votes. It will now end on 12th June – if I’ve received enough votes by then, at least. Not voted yet? Well why on Earth not?! The longer this poll goes on for the more stupid quiz questions I have to come up with for the space at the bottom where the results are supposed to go. So for goodness sake, vote now on the right of any page!

GameSpot Demo, Preview Ambitions

GameSpot has posted an exclusive hands-on preview of The Sims 3 Ambitions, focusing this time on the ghost hunter and inventor professions:

As you might expect, bustin’ ghosts requires you to work odd hours (you’ll start off at about 5:00 p.m. in game time and work until the wee hours of the morning). The meat and potatoes of the profession are “spirit collecting” jobs that require you to don your ectoplasm-stained jumpsuit, hop into a cab, and travel across town to an infested house.

Included in the article is a demo with producer Melanie Lam, which shows a bit of the architecture and fire fighter professions, and can also be watched below:
