Another Stuff Pack for The Sims 3 was announced, the current poll was extended one last time, the Create a Pattern Tool launched sooner than expected, and my Ambitions review coverage concludes

Ambitions Reviews Wrap-Up

I've found just three The Sims 3 Ambitions reviews since last issue, and it's been a month now since the expansion was released, so I think this issue is a good time to wrap-up my reviews coverage. I won't post any more reviews as articles in future issues, but you can still see if I've found any as I'll still add them to the Reviews tab on the website - updates that'll of course be noted in the Latest Updates box. Anyway, here's the last reviews, then I'll wrap-up, by comparing it semi-final Metascore and Ranking with the ones achieved by previous expansion packs.

EL33TONLINE rated The Sims 3 Ambitions three out of five, a score described as “Good!”, in tonight’s only review:

Yes, EA did a great job in making your Sim’s career more interactive, but at the same time turned it into a chore. When the line between my real job and my Sim’s job begins to blur, it’s time to stop playing!

GamesRadar gave it seven out of 10, a score described as “good”:

It’s certainly one of the meatier expansions in the franchise’s history in terms of sheer gameplay benefits, but it may segment its audience a bit too much, as not every profession will be enjoyable for every player.

Spawn Kill gave it a not-very-good 6.5 out of 10:

While the town of Twinbook is lovely and a lot of fun to explore, there isn’t much fun to be had by playing the careers for more than an hour or two. It’s definitely worth playing if you are already a huge Sims fan, but there is a certain amount of much-needed depth missing.

The Metascore is currently 75 based on 17 reviews, but I think it’s unlikely to change much in the event more are added. This is worse than World Adventures, which got a ’score of 81, and the base game, which got a ‘score of 86. This is also worse than most The Sims 2 expansion packs, with only Bon Voyage and FreeTime getting lower ‘scores than Ambitions (Apartment Life drew). Individual Metascores are given in the link list below.

 > The Sims 3 World Adventures at Metacritic

 > The Sims 2 University (81) at Metacritic
 > The Sims 2 Nightlife (76) at Metacritic
 > The Sims 2 Open for Business (78) at Metacritic
 > The Sims 2 Pets (76) at Metacritic
 > The Sims 2 Seasons (78) at Metacritic
 > The Sims 2 Bon Voyage (74) at Metacritic
 > The Sims 2 FreeTime (74) at Metacritic
 > The Sims 2 Apartment Life (75) at Metacritic

The Ranking at GameRankings currently stands at 78.58%. That’s based on six reviews but probably won’t change that much if they find any more. This is lower than World Adventures’s Ranking, which stands at 82.78%, and the base game’s, which is 86.90%. Comparing it to The Sims 2 expansion packs, this is a better Ranking than the ones attained by the Nightlife, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage and FreeTime, but worser than the ones attained by University, Open for Business (it’s semi-equivilent) and Apartment Life.
