New Town To Be Made Available At The Sims 3 Store

Tuesday 31st August 2010 | 7:32 pm UK time | Categories

Screenshot of Barnacle BayA new town will be made available at The Sims 3 Store in the autumn (fall), called Barnacle Bay:

An island nestled in the Simuyan Sea, Barnacle Bay is a vibrant vacation getaway with stunning beaches, campgrounds, parks, and a curiously modern downtown. First settled by pirates, fisherman and artists — the world’s inhabitants now enjoy relaxing at Smuggler’s Beach and letting loose at The Wanderer’s Watering Hole. Will your trip be a vacation or a staycation?

The “curiously modern downtown” suggests it’ll be released after Late Night to include that expansion’s features. It’s not yet known how many SimPoints it’ll cost, but probably a lot!

“” Registered

Monday 30th August 2010 | 5:50 pm UK time | Categories

The Sims 3 may have only been released not much more than a year ago, but EA is already looking ahead: they’ve registered “”. This is probably just to stop anyone else snapping it up, so don’t go assuming they’ll be announcing The Sims 4 anytime soon! The domain is registered until 9th April 2012, but they can renew it so that probably doesn’t mean anything.

Americans! Now You Too Can (Legitimately) Get The EV Pack!

Sunday 29th August 2010 | 12:52 am UK time | Categories

Remember the Renault Twizy Z.E., which was made available on The Sims 3 Store as a free download accompanied by a “bonus EV pack”? Do you also remember that those in the US and Canada weren’t allowed to download it (at least according to the terms)? Well those in the US at least (sorry Canadians) can now get their hands on that EV pack – but with a different car: the third generation Toyota Prius. To celebrate 10 years of the Prius, the download also comes with a celebration pack which contains a balloon, some fireworks, and some shirts. This offer is “only valid in the US”, so take advantage, Americans (not to say there’s necessarily anything to stop others downloading it…)!

Monday 23rd August 2010 | 11:51 pm UK time | Categories

EA has revealed The Sims 3 Deluxe, which includes both The Sims 3 and expansion pack Ambitions in the same box. TheSims3 on Twitter says that it will be released next month (September), but don’t make clear whether that’s worldwide or just in the US. Only the US and Canada versions of have been updated to include the pack, replacing the pages for The Sims 3 Collector’s Edition in those locales.

GamePro, GamesRadar And GameSpot All Get Their Late Night Preview On

Tuesday 17th August 2010 | 3:41 pm UK time | Categories

Following on from IGN’s preview of The Sims 3 Late Night late last week, GamePro, GamesRadar and GameSpot have all now posted their own. Let’s start with a quote from GamePro’s:

The Mixology skill is a new way to get famous, however, with Sims learning recipes from drinking strange drinks and finding, buying, or growing ingredients for cocktails on their own.

GamesRadar’s preview is fairly short, but is probably still worth a look:

Oxygen bars seem to be making a comeback in Late Night too; we saw one in almost every bar we visited. Different flavors of oxygen affect your Sim’s mood in different ways, so you can actually use them to facilitate whatever other activities you want your Sim to partake in.

And finally, GameSpot’s preview:

If you prefer to take a more traditional job approach and start from the bottom, there’s a film career to pursue that allows you to branch off on different paths as an actor or a director. You’ll earn different rewards at the end, such as a director’s chair or your very own trailer where you can throw star tantrums.

There’s also a couple of new screenshots, though they might once again just be stills from the trailer – go to the Screenshots tab to view them:

IGN Brings Us First Late Night Preview From Gamescom

Sunday 15th August 2010 | 12:46 am UK time | Categories

IGN has posted the first proper preview (as far as I’m aware) of The Sims 3 Late Night, as part of their Gamescom coverage:

Heading into the downtown areas of the city will let you explore a section of town filled with skyscrapers and loft apartments. Accessing these swanky living spaces can be done via elevators, and once you’re up to the right floor you can poke around the pad and maybe walk out onto the balcony where a hot tub is installed, complete with color-changing lights.

EA Gives Us A “Sneak Peek” At Late Night

Wednesday 11th August 2010 | 2:52 pm UK time | Categories

EA has posted a news article on giving us a “sneak peek” at The Sims 3 Late Night:

The Sims 3 Late Night is set to be a more mature and realistic look at the night scene in a more urban environment. Instead of experiencing pre-determined set pieces that players would inevitably see over and over, it’s more of a playground of possibility and intrigue.

Poll Results: Which is your favourite profession in The Sims 3 Ambitions?

Saturday 7th August 2010 | 7:51 pm UK time | Categories

Yes, it’s true – your eyes are not deceiving you. I really am closing a poll without extending it once. And it’s thanks to you lot for actually bothering to vote in good time. So thank you.

Right, yes – results. I asked you this: Which is your favourite profession in The Sims 3 Ambitions? There was a tie – both Stylist and Investigator got about 17%. Meanwhile 26% are still unsure whether to actually get Ambitions or not. Click below to see the results in full and comment on them:
 > Full Results

If a poll has ended, another must have begun, and so it has. What I want to know this time is whether anyone else thinks that the name of the newest expansion pack, The Sims 3 Late Night, sounds like it should have “Stuff” at the end. I’ve nearly called it The Sims 3 Late Night Stuff in the past, and have seen another website go further and actually publish a news article calling it that. So, vote to the right of any page – it’s a simple yes or no with this one.

Thursday 5th August 2010 | 5:46 pm UK time | Categories

EA has released a new video allowing you to go behind the scenes of The Sims 3 Fast Lane Stuff. Some of the people behind the game (including Grant Rodiek, natch) discuss the cars included, plus there’s some first game footage:
