They’ve also posted the US box art – if you clicked through to that Swedish website I reported on last night, it’s the same as the one you saw there, except for the English version of the logo.

GameSpot Posts Their Impressions Of Generations

Tuesday 5th April 2011 | 11:54 pm UK time | Categories

GameSpot has posted an “Impressions Preview” of the newly announced The Sims 3 Generations. There’s some interesting new details, such as this:

However, the most interesting new feature in this expansion seems to be the imaginary friend; a character that your child creates after ordering a specific type of mail-order doll. After giving the doll a name, your child sim can summon an imaginary, child-sized version of the doll to be a playmate who will happily hop onto the opposite end of a seesaw and even run minor errands for you if you have a decent enough social relationship with it.

Generations: US Trailer Reveals Release Date, Plus New Screenshot Released

Tuesday 5th April 2011 | 7:33 pm UK time | Categories

EA has now posted the US version of the The Sims 3 Generations trailer on YouTube, and it’s the same as the UK version posted earlier except for one thing: it gives a specific release date of 31st May (the UK version just says “June”). Presumably that means it’ll be released in the UK right at the beginning of June as there’s normally less than a week between the US and UK launches.

EA has also posted another screenshot of the expansion, which you can view right here:

The Sims 3 Generations Announced With Details, Screenshots, Trailer

Tuesday 5th April 2011 | 5:38 pm UK time | Categories

EA UK has finally put us out of our misery and announced the next expansion pack for The Sims 3 on their Facebook page for the game: Generations, as expected. They’ve posted a trailer, which you can watch below and is actually a reasonable length for once, some details which you’ve already read if you saw last night’s post, plus three screenshots which you can view by clicking the link to the newly-created page.

As it says in the video, Generations will be released in June.

CVG has managed to get an interview with producer Ryan Vaughan:

For the people out there who enjoy trapping Sims in rooms without doors and introducing hazards, what new mischief making opportunities does the expansion provide?

Child and Teen Sims can take advantage of the brand new Pranks feature. Complete with booby traps, pranks you can play on your neighbors, and some Stink Juice, players will have the opportunity to cause more mischief than ever before! Just don’t get caught or else your Sim might end up grounded!

English Description For Next Expansion Pack Found On Swedish Retailer Website

Tuesday 5th April 2011 | 12:57 am UK time | Categories

In advance of the reveal expected later today what appears to be the description of the next The Sims 3 expansion pack has been found on the website of a Swedish retailer (in English, oddly). Fitting in with previous sightings, the description refers to the expansion as “Generations”:

Enjoy a whole spectrum of rich life experiences with your Sims!

Start off in the imagination-fuelled world of childhood and embrace the drama of the teen years. Experience the complicated realities of adult life, then reap the benefits of growing up in each life stage. A wealth of new options and activities makes your Sims’ lives more meaningful than ever before, whatever their ages. With new celebrations, dramatic life events, and all-new ways for your Sims to express their creativity, The Sims 3 Generations lets your Sims live life to the fullest!

If you go to the page, you can also read a feature list and have a look at the Swedish version of the box art:

Is This The Next Expansion Pack?

Saturday 2nd April 2011 | 12:55 pm UK time | Categories

EA has posted a mysterious new screenshot on the The Sims 3 Facebook page. It appears to be a game show setup with three items behind curtains: a spiral staircase, a pram and a medieval-style bunk bed, none of which are currently in the game – is this a teaser for the next expansion pack? They don’t give much away in the caption (they just ask us to come up with our own captions for it), so I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see. They’re also teasing a “super secret surprise” on Tuesday, which is expected to be the announcement of the next expansion pack.

The Sims 3 Is 39th Greatest Game Of All Time – GamesRadar

Friday 1st April 2011 | 6:38 pm UK time | Categories

GamesRadar has posted its list of the top 100 best games of all time, and at number 39 is The Sims 3, beating such games as Halo 3, Gears of War 2, God of War and Metal Gear Solid 3. Here’s what they had to say:

Don’t dismiss The Sims as “dolls” – the word is way too limited to describe the degree of power this series provides for players. Yes, you choose your pet computer people’s wardrobe, but you also customize the architecture of their homes, the layout of their neighborhoods, the politics of their social circles, the DNA of their genetics and the contents of their hearts. Yes, you can tell them exactly when to flush the toilet, but you can also tell them when to fall in love or when to murder their enemies. You can even relinquish all control of your miniature universe and simply watch life unfold. The Sims is whatever you want The Sims to be, and The Sims 3 is currently the most generous and expansive version of that freedom.

“Unleashed” Trailer Confirmed As Hoax; EA “Will Never Do A Pets Expansion” (Updated)

Friday 1st April 2011 | 12:49 am UK time | Categories

Update (2nd April 12:48 am): If you didn’t work it out, this post was an April Fool’s joke – I haven’t received an email from EA, and the only hoax as far as I’m aware was this post, not the trailer. Chances are they will announce a pets expansion pack soon, though how soon I don’t know – it seems the Thursday announcement was just some The Sims 3 Store preview images, so the Tuesday announcement will probably be the expansion apparently named Generations. If they’ve already created the trailer though, surely they must be planning to announce it soon?
Update Ends

EA has just emailed me with some grave news for those longing for Pets in The Sims 3. The email not only confirms that the previously found trailer for an “Unleashed” expansion pack is an elaborate hoax, but then goes on to outright say that they “will never do a pets expansion pack for The Sims 3”. It seems odd that EA would completely rule out ever doing something, but I suppose they’re hoping this’ll stop all the messages asking when the pets expansion will be released.
